Interview with GM Megaman!

TibiaRP: Hello Megaman, thanks for taking the time from your 'busy' 'hunting' schedule to take part in an interview today!
GM Megaman: Yea, that schedule leaves me barely any time for any chatting at all... normally.

TibiaRP: Yes, it must be a hard life slaying orcs everyday, you've levelled a lot recently then?
GM Megaman: Yea, in the past 12 months I went from level 65 to level 66. Much blood had to be shed, but it was worth it!

TibiaRP: Hrhr. So, we'll dive right in...
GM Megaman: yea, I love diving.

TibiaRP: ...perhaps you could start by introducing yourself to those who might not know who you are?
GM Megaman: Of course, where have I left my manners? I'm Megaman, a Novan inhabitant. Some might know me under my GM-alter ego Klior, I hope you won’t ask for my age!

TibiaRP: ... Aha, we all know your age... you're an old man by now, I'm sure... where did Erig's calculators go! :@! What about the humanoid behind the power-slayer, perhaps you could give us a little insight into the 'real' Megaman?
GM Megaman: The real Megaman... well, my name is Niko, I am a 21 and come from Germany. Which is pretty much everything I can openly reveal about myself ;)

TibiaRP: ... Aha, another German! Well, as you mentioned earlier, you're also a Tibian gamemaster, you received your position a good few years ago now... how did it all come about?
GM Megaman: Well, it was during my first war in March 2006. I just learned that a level 76 is an easy target for a level 160+ Sorcerer. And minutes after I respawned in my temple, laughing about my own stupidity - Craban (the head GM at that time) messaged me out of the blue. He came to the point after chatting a bit and asking me whether I'd like to apply as a gamemaster and advised me to hide my characters in case of me wanting to be a hidden Gamemaster, which I wanted at that point of time ;)

TibiaRP: ... Ah, that brings me to a later question, don't jump ahead of me! Hunted! So, Craban powerabused you into applying, what next, a week later you were banishing botters under the alter ego Klior?
GM Megaman: Well, I had to write an application. Then I was contacted again and a date was set for a "training session". The name was actually a suggestion of Trithaithus, I do not remember where he had it from. My first ban was a macrofisher in Carlin. I had to boradcast the banishment back then, receiving a wave of blue messages... and then I started banning botters under the alter ego Klior and many more alter egos as well :)

TibiaRP: ... Ah, you dare mention the GM who never was .. hehe. A training session you say, so they didn't quite throw you in at the deep end, ever thoughtful! You mention having many alter egos... one of them was the 'oh so innocent and powerless' ...senior tutor Megaman for a good many years. For what demonic reasons did you hide your position as a gamemaster?
GM Megaman: No matter what Trith did, I am still glad having met him. Why have I decided being hidden in the beginning... well, the obvious reasons. I wanted my peace ;). Though... quite soon pretty much everyone assumed that I was a GM

TibiaRP: So there was never a slip up, no accidental broadcast to the entire server that blew your cover? ;)
GM Megaman: Haha, no. I have uncovered my identity on my own, free will. No misstakes, no threats, no pressure.

TibiaRP: Ah, nice to hear, I have to say I'm a massive fan of your latest reincarnation.. GM Megamum, she does a very good job! So you've enjoyed your time until now as a gamemaster then?
GM Megaman: GM Megamum, yea, that one was created because I have (out of some, weird, unknown reason) gotten the nick-name "Megamum". And yes, until now I have enjoyed my time as a Gamemaster. It for sure has quite many negative sides and is in some aspects hard work... but nevertheless, enjoyable.

TibiaRP: I'm sure, I'm sure... the complete abandonment of playing characters might've been one of your less productive rewards! As you mentioned earlier, you've been in a few wars during your time, in fact, you're from Nova, 'the war server'. This in mind, what're your thoughts on the upcoming changes to the skull system?
GM Megaman: I guess you mean the black skull... well, I guess people will avoid getting a black skull by all means... though, with the current war system and the soon-to-be-introduced rule of more people getting an unjustified kill it's going to have a very large impact on the wars. Thus I am also a fan of a real war system, which is serverside. There are many great proposals, and I hope that one of them is going to get introduced soon. When I remember well, one of the first polls some years back also resulted in the war system being wanted by most Tibians.

TibiaRP: Mhmm, it certainly seems to be a hot topic amongst Tibians at the moment. Your home world is a normal PvP server, a fair few of these servers are undergoing troubled times, do you have any theories as to why attitudes amongst Tibians have changed so much?
GM Megaman: I think this is linked with the massive botting. Most of those who gain their power by botting (which means they don’t do anything for their power) seem to be unable to handle it. Thus they start trying to prove everyone how powerful they are. By proving I mean, they pray on helpless people being about half their level. Of course the concentration of the power in one or two guilds... it is hard (not impossible) for the community to fight these oppressors too much power in the hand of a few people who can't control it, this being today’s situation in many cases.

TibiaRP: Ah, yes, guilds... I won't delve into it too much else I fear I might ramble on, but, we all know that in the past your own server (Nova) had a variety of influential peaceful guilds, what on earth happened to them?!
GM Megaman: That's a good question; I have myself been very inactive for a while. But I fear most of them went inactive. Though, there still are influential peaceful guilds here. Though, they are having enough problems to sort of their own, thus they do not appear in the public day by day helping strangers.

TibiaRP: Right, let’s move on to the hot topic. Cipsoft's auto detection system has been in force for six months now, from your perspective, as a former bot-buster, how's it doing?
GM Megaman: Well, as being said many times, it actually bans far more than we GM's ever did. As we were just able to catch the stupid botters, all the others never botted AFK. The downside is, now that GM's can't do anything, the botters are totally AFK... which is depressing for the community of course. Hell, even as a gamemaster I have to share hunting grounds with botters.

The best solution I see is reducing the intervals in-between the banishment waves. And not giving the botters a 30 days ban-free-time… and I do think that this is actually going to happen.

TibiaRP: Well, I hope you don't mind me springing this upon you... I have a quote from an angry Tibian... perhaps you could answer some of his points?
GM Megaman: Jonny I guess? Well, let's see :)

TibiaRP: Uff, no, this is a very unholy individual; “'Nowadays high-levels bot without fear of being caught, they bot for several days in a row because they know that they can bot for a month without being caught... And even after a month it's not sure that they will be caught! This is outrageous! Why are gamemasters not allowed to at least teleport the botters to temple?” Mr Angry Tibian has a good point; players are botting, and then subsequently not being banned, what is going on?!
GM Megaman: Well, when we teleport a player the chances are high that the detection tool then lacks proofs to banish the player later on, as we'd interrupt the automatic investigation. As far as I know this is the reason we, as Gamemasters, may no longer investigate botters.

TibiaRP: It makes sense, I must admit... but you must be able to understand players’ frustration when they're still being told six months on that they should just 'ignore' botters...
GM Megaman: I do understand the frustration; I am facing it as well. And be sure that we are also forwarding summaries of all this to the Customer Support, and as said before, I am sure there are going to be some changes soon.

TibiaRP: Very well, we shall see what Cipsoft come up with! Time to twist it about; revolutionary... it's your turn to ask me two questions!
GM Megaman: Are you in love with Redaxano? (He wanted me to mention him, that's what he gets for that request)

TibiaRP: Affff... I seem to be getting constant offers of love these days... from meni pr0 high lefels, Redaxano, hm, he inspires my role-playing side, so yes <3.
GM Megaman: …and my second question... who is this interview really for?

TibiaRP: Is it embarrass Morth day? :(. I told you, TibiaRP - Where role-players meet!
GM Megaman: I'm old, my memory fails... often.

TibiaRP: Right, to finish up! Favourite vocation?
GM Megaman: Sorcerer

TibiaRP: Favourite City?
GM Megaman: Yalahar

TibiaRP: Tibia now, or Tibia in times gone by?
GM Megaman: Times gone by ;)

TibiaRP: GM Klior or GM Megaman?
GM Megaman: GM Megaman

TibiaRP: ...and finally, Dragoy or Redaxano?! (Sorry non-novans!)
GM Megaman: as?

TibiaRP: ...I'm not allowed to comment.
GM Megaman: Both, I wont do any of those misstakes again! :D
TibiaRP: Hrhr, thank you very much for your time Klior, Niko, Megaman... whoever you truly are :D!
